Outreachy report: June 2025

Highlights

• We approved first stipend payments for all 26 interns.
• We received the news that our grant proposal was accepted! 🎉

Description of activities

We had another quiet month this June: we mostly took care of our June 2025 interns as they went through their first month of internship.

Tilda and I introduced changes to feedback forms and blog post prompts to collect more detailed information on the progress of interns in order to make payment authorization processes more streamlined.

Omotola and I facilitated an intern chat on how to overcome struggles and ask for help from mentors and more experienced community members. We also worked on promotional materials for potential partners.

I introduced a new meeting notes format that logs tasks for the week, deadlines, expected deliverables and factors that may impact on the work capacity of the team.

Sage, Tilda, Omotola and I reviewed the first cycle of feedback submissions and authorized payments for all 26 interns.

We received the news that our grant proposal was accepted in mid June. I’m working on a way to make a propper announcement, but I’m happy to report that’s related to the Open Mentorship Initiative idea I’ve been championing in the last six months.

Upcoming activities

I’m structuring activities and a backlog of tasks for the Open Mentorship Handbook project. We’ll continue to reach out to communities and key participants of DISC Unconference.

We’re also going to prompt our community of coordinators and mentors to participate in discussions about our funding challenges. We’ll host community listening sessions in the last two weeks of July.
